"MERITORIOUS SERVICE"

 

 

Francis J. "Frank" Zelechowski was born on July 5, 1938, and raised in Highlantown. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute "B" course in 1957. Frank is married to Patricia, and on August 6, 2007 celebrated 47 years of marriage. He has worked as an Engineer, Superintendent and Contract Manager for McLean Contracting since 1958 (48+ years) and is still working. Frank and his wife moved with their 5 children from Dundalk Md. to Bel Air Md. in 1977.

Frank began bowling in the Tuesday Night League and Roadrunner League at Colt Lanes
Dundalk (formally Fair lanes and presently AMF) in 1962. He served in the capacities as
the league’s Vice-President and President from 1964 -1972 for the Tuesday Night League and the league Secretary -Treasurer for the Road Runners league on Thursday from 1965 -1977. He was the President of the Commercial Birds from 1990-1998. Since 1995 he is the Secretary-Treasurer for the Jack Bailey Memorial League, and he is also the Secretary-Treasurer for the Monday Night Men's Handicap League since 2002.


Frank started his service with the Maryland State Bowling Association in 1987 where he was a Delegate to the MSBA for the Cecil Harford Counties BA and severed as a Delegate until he was appointed acting Secretary-Treasurer, by the President of the
MSBA, with the passing of Mr. Ed Reading, in June 2003. Frank stepped in and picked up from this point and kept the MSBA operating without a glitch. The audit committee that year (2003) commended Frank”for an exemplary job well done in lieu of the
circumstances that he had to work with”.

Frank was elected Secretary-Treasurer at the 2003 Jamboree Meeting. Served as such until the MSUSBC was formed. Frank represented the MSBA at the National Convention in 2004 and 2005. He was appointed to act as the co-tournament director for
the Men’s Championship Tournament from 2004 to 2006. He also assisted with and was the co-tournament director for the 3 Maryland State Tournaments hosted by the CHCBA. Frank was Tournament Director for the Maryland State Mix Tournament in 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2002.

Frank was appointed by the President of the MSBA to serve on the Transition Board as one of the three Maryland State BA representatives, to set up the initial guidelines for the new merged State Association (MSUSBC).

Frank attended two transition workshops, one in Philadelphia Pa. and one in Scranton Pa. to better understand the process of merging associations. Frank currently serves on the MSUSBC Board as the Director for the Cecil Harford USBC BA.

From 1994 to 2005 worked for USA Bowling as the Maryland / Delaware State coordinator conducted tournaments to determine Team USA finalists to represent the States of Maryland and Delaware at the National Finals.

Frank has served two times as the Tournament Director for the Maryland State Seniors Tournament in the Mid 1990’s. Frank was the Open Tournament Manager for the MSUSBC Open Championship Tournament for the year 2007. He has served every
committee that CHCBA was assigned by the MSBA from 1988-2006.

Frank was elected to the CHCBA Board of Directors in 1987. In 1991 he succeeded Bob Thomas, as Secretary-Treasurer. He has constantly upgraded the CHUSBC making it more efficient and effective as Secretary-Treasurer, Executive Director and presently Association Manager.

Since 2000 Frank has been the Tournament Director for the local Valentine Tournament. In 1991 Frank and Judy Wheeler started the HCUSBCWBA and CHUSBCBA local Mixed Tournament. In 2002, Frank initialed the CHUSBCBA Golden Drake Seniors Single Tournament. He also served on the CHUSBC Youth board as Vice President from 2001-2002 seasons. Frank was elected Life Member of the Cecil Harford USBC BA in 1999 and elected to their Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service in 2003.

For his years of hard work, ongoing dedication and service to the sport of tenpin bowling, the Maryland State USBC Association is proud to induct Frank J. Zelechowski to their Hall of Fame in the category of Meritorious Service.
